Categories of Animals

Animals are classified into two main categories – the vertebrates and the invertebrates. The vertebrates are further divided into mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish and birds. On the other hand, all organisms that do not have a backbone come under invertebrates. Animals can also be categorised as domestic animals and wild animals; furthermore, as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores, based on their eating habits.
